Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hardcourt

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a former number one, has endured a torrid year, winning just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in particular - led to him falling of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with long-term coach Cervara.

Presently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the past month - culminating in a closely contested three-set win over challenger Corentin Moutet.

It is Medvedev's maiden title since the Rome competition and first on a hard court from spring of 2023.

The win also signifies the Russian has won 21 championships at 21 various tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a tournament with my children at once, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," said world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my child Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his previous six title deciders, including in that event previously this season.

The player's retrieving play style and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had led observers to question if his capacity to compete at the highest level was concluded.

However the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the past month, attempting to come to the net and compete assertively, supported by an enhanced service.

He fought back from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, taking four of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.

The competitors swapped break points in the second set before Moutet, striving for his initial professional title, gained dominance to create a decider.

Moutet defended four early-game break points in a tight final set before the champion won the break to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner secured the title with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
